Onassis Airtimes Film Festival Germany

A short film for the Onassis Airtimes Film Festival in Germany featuring Australian racer and outlaw car builder Ron Goodman and his amazing 1954 Porsche 356.

The somewhat different Porsche meeting, that started 6 years ago as Tunnelrun and peaked last year with “800”, is going full speed ahead to the next stage – Onassis Airtimes 2020. As in the previous year, more than 300 Porsche vehicles will travel from all over Europe meet with friends for what is probably the most relaxed get-together, that you can envision in this country. A colorful and yet to-be-defined community found its home here, that’s what it felt like strolling through the rows of cars and participants at 800. Good vibes and miles away from the clichees oft he classic Markentreffen.

Hope you enjoy it.

Bill Henson

Bill Henson is one of Australia’s most enduring contemporary artists with a career spanning more than 40 years. His photographs range from portraits of adolescents to emotive landscapes, providing viewers with the opportunity to contemplate the ambiguous and transcendent qualities of his works.

In some respects Henson is a very traditional artist. His interest in the sublime dimensions of life, and the emotional intensity of the individual, situates him in a romantic tradition dating back to the 18th century. His emphasis on the aesthetic experience of the artwork also points to this particular tradition of art-making. He nonetheless brings a late 20th-century perspective to this romantic vision, using the medium of photography to engage contemporary sensibilities with the emotional intensity of the human experience.

Margaret Olley

MARGARET OLLEY: A LIFE IN PAINT is an intimate one-hour documentary about one of Australia's best-loved painters. A well-known figure from the time she was painted by William Dobell in 1948, Olley's celebrity status tended to overshadow her life as a painter. This film puts Margaret OIley the painter on centre stage. Many believe her last works - those painted in the 18 months leading up to her death on 26 July 2011 - were amongst her finest.
Emeritus curator Barry Pearce calls the Sydney house in which Margaret lived her 'inner sanctum'. The house is the starting point for this documentary, as Pearce takes an intensely personal tour through the house which over time became more studio space than living space.
Olley bought the house in Duxford Street, Paddington, in 1964. It was a large Sydney terrace with an annex previously used as a hat factory. Between the 'hat factory' and the main house was a kind of transit area with bedsit room, small kitchen and bathroom. This was the 'yellow room' where she lived initially while renting out the rest of the house. In time, it became her muse and the subject of what Pearce calls 'her greatest masterpiece'.
The footage of Olley's house is all the more poignant now as the house is in the process of being archived and packed up for its re-creation at the Tweed River Art Gallery in a purpose-built extension.
Margaret Olley: A Life in Paint contains rare footage of Olley using her very distinctive painting process - with a board on her lap. She first chalks in a picture, then paints over in acrylic before using oil paint in the final step.

Someday - music clip

Putting pictures to music can be one of the most enjoyable process for an editor. However this beautifully composed piece by Jazz Double Bass Player and Composer Jonathan Zwartz was certainly a challenge.

Without any footage of the musicians playing, we decided on a voyeuristic approach to overlaying the composition titled "Someday" from the album "Animarum".

Shot entirely in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Los Angeles for a documentary, we're happy with the adaptation to music video.

miss tibet

The Miss Tibet beauty pageant claims to give women a platform to highlight Tibetan issues, drawing attention to the the plight of the its people as well as the brilliance of the lifestyle and culture. For pageant Director Lobsang Wangyal, the event is not just a beauty pageant, but a political act, "celebrating our identity, our culture and our proud tradition", whilst "implicitly asserting" Tibet as a nation and Tibetans as a people. But does the pageant really empower its women, or simply exploit them further?

Produced initially ABC Televisions Foreign Correspondent, Miss Tibet has been viewed over 15 million times world wide. For the full version visit www.bondirocksmedia.tv

The Pinks - music clip

You can tell they don’t take themselves too seriously just from the name: the Pinks. It’s a cute sidestep around the dodgy old argument about whether white boys could play the blues. It is also what seven of Australia’s top rock, jazz, blues and country musicians do when they just want to have fun.

Assembled by the acclaimed jazz bassist Jonathan Zwartz the Pinks bring together singer/guitarist brothers Reg Mombassa and Peter O’Doherty (of Dog Trumpet, Mental As Anything and painting fame) and drummer Rob Souter (Slim Dusty, Dynamic Hepnotics).

I happended to be filming on the night and sadly it was the last time Rob Souter was filmed playing.

He passed away several weeks later.

De Tomaso Pantera

For over 50 years Rusty French has driven in distinction with in a variety of motorsport categories both in Australia and overseas.

Outside of racing, business success has provided the financial capacity that's allowed Rusty to keep hold of a large portion of the cars he's owned and raced throughout the years.

In 1975 he bought the Detomaso Pantera, an exotic Italian sports car with a thumping 351 Ford V8 engine.

It's one of my favourite cars on the Historic Racing scene and can't wait to hear it at full throttle again.

275gtb

The Ferrari 275 GTB belonging to Rusty French is widely considered to be one of the prettiest grand touring cars built during the sizzling ’60s.

GTs made in the ’60s are a sight to behold: elongated noses, low rooflines, and a tail that usually ends with a stubby Kammback. It’s a well-known recipe and few applied it better than Ferrari. Designed by the house of Pininfarina, by now an integral part of the Maranello-based manufacturer, the 275 GTB came to sweepingly replace all of the 250-series models. It was designed to be more user-friendly, more practical, but without giving up on performance or the unique feeling of being behind the wheel of a Ferrari.

Take a look as Rusty open’s it up along Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.

Screentime - showreel

Commissioned by Screentime Australia, their brief to me was for a short corporate style video which focused on the company’s skill at storytelling. The video was used successfully as part of their sales team pitch both locally and internationally.
